The internet is a fantastic place to learn, play games, watch videos and stay connected with friends and family. However, it is important to know how to stay safe when using technology.
At Upperby, we want all children to enjoy being online safely and responsibly.
Remember the SMART Rules
✅ S - Safe
Keep your personal information private.
Never share:
- Your full name
- Home address
- Phone number
- Passwords
- School name
✅ M - Meet
Never agree to meet someone you have only spoken to online.
Always tell a trusted adult if someone asks to meet you.
✅ A - Accept
Do not accept messages, friend requests or files from people you do not know.
Tell an adult if something makes you feel uncomfortable.
✅ R - Reliable
Not everything online is true.
Always check information with a trusted adult if you are unsure.
✅ T - Tell
If something upsets, worries or scares you online, tell a trusted adult straight away.
Remember: You will never get into trouble for asking for help.
What Should I Do If Something Worries Me?
If you see something online that makes you feel worried, upset or confused:
- Stop using the device.
- Do not reply or click on anything else.
- Tell a trusted adult immediately.
- Save the message or screen if possible.
Be Kind Online
Treat others online the same way you would treat them in school.
Remember:
- Use kind words.
- Think before you post.
- Respect other people's feelings.
- Never join in with bullying.
If you see bullying online, tell an adult.
Creating Strong Passwords
A good password should:
- Be difficult to guess.
- Not include your name.
- Be kept secret.
Never share your password with friends.
