Miss Long (Monday) and Miss Wilson (Tuesday - Friday) are our teaching assistants.
Class Information
Rainbows have PE on a Thursday morning.
All children receive free fruit and milk however
there is a charge of £1 per week for additional snacks such as crumpets, brioche and yogurt. This can be given to a member of staff at the class entrance.
The Early Learning Goals
At the end of Reception Year, children's progress is measured against the Early Learning Goals, as an expected level of development for a typical 5 year old child - children will be either emerging towards, at the expected or exceeding the expected level.
These pages are taken from the " What to expect, when" document, written especially for parents as a guide to the ages and stages of children's development throughout the Early Years.

The full document can be found here. Remember, all children make different rates of progress and this is just a guide to what a typical child should achieve.
In Rainbows we love the Elmer stories written by David McKee. This week we have enjoyed finding different ways to make Elmers colourful patchwork colours and Wilbur's black and white checks. The children also wrote about their favourite character or part of the story.
Well done Rainbows! ๐
๐ World Book Day ๐
Decorate Your Door Challenge
To celebrate World Book Day 2020 we are decorating our classroom door with one of our favourite story characters.
Can you guess who it is?
All will be revealed at the end of the week!
๐ World Book Day 2020 ๐
World Book Day will be held on Thursday 5th March. Children are invited to come to school dressed as their favourite book character on this day.
Can you name all of the book characters in our curiosity cube this week?
The children are already very excited about dressing up and have enjoyed talking about their favourite character in class this week.
๐ฅ Pancake Day ๐ฅ
Rainbows had a wonderful morning discussing our favourite pancake toppings, fruit and chocolate were very popular! There were some super colouring and cutting skills on display when we designed our own pancakes. Well done children ๐
๐ Valentines Day ๐
There will be some lucky grown ups at home time today!
The Rainbows Valentine Card Factory is in full swing this morning!
๐ข Maths in Action! ๐ข
January 2020
The children have loved exploring this interactive
'whole, part, part model'. We started with four counters and have been adding more counters throughout the week.
๐ Air Hockey ๐
January 2020
Today the children made their own air hockey game with two cups and a plastic bottle top! A great example of the children working together as a team, taking turns and developing their play skills independently.
The game became so competitive the girls decided to keep scores using the numerals they have been practising and making tickets for children who were waiting their turn.
๐Reading in Rainbows!๐
Rainbow children love to read - with their friends, with a partner and especially with grown ups!
Don't forget to join us for our reading session on Wednesday's at 3pm.
๐ January 2020!๐
The children have had a super start to the new year! We enjoyed reading the story Hooray for Fish by Lucy Cousins.
We had fun learning to hear and write the 'sh' sound correctly in words and writing silly sentences about fish!
Some fantastic fish paintings being created at the painting table.
๐ Children in Need 2019 ๐
Rainbows are dressed in red and spots this morning to celebrate this years Children in Need Day. Thank you for all of your kind donations, the children look fabulous!!
This morning we logged on to work out with Joe Wicks and thousands of children around the country during his Big Move Live for Children in Need. It certainly got us warmed up and motivated for the rest of the day!
๐ Poppy Postcards ๐
November 2019
'Postcards of Kindness' encourages people to send postcards to residential homes in the UK to help combat loneliness. As one of our Upperby values is 'Caring for others' we aim to spread kindness and promote caring for others.
The children have had a lovely morning making their own Remembrance Day themed postcards and finding out more about why we wear poppies on Remembrance Day.
๐ Munchkin Pumpkins ๐
October 2018
This week our curiosity cube contained three munchkin pumpkins and a copy of 'Winnie's Amazing Pumpkin' by Valerie Thomas and Korky Paul.
As you can see from our October display the children came up with some excellent ways to explore and investigate the munchkin pumpkins!
If you have not seen our curiosity cube yet, why not take a look the next time you are in.
The cube is there to develop the children's knowledge and understanding by encouraging them to ask questions about the objects inside and to develop their language skills by talking about what they can see with their friends.
๐ Welcome back! ๐
With the excitement of Halloween building the children have enjoyed talking about their favourite costumes to dress up in.
The children loved today's story so much they decided to draw their own Miss Moon's Moonlight school pictures - check out our super writing as well!
๐ข Super Simple Cup Games ๐ข
We have had so much fun playing these easy to make cup games. Why don't you have a go at home!
We started by writing numbers on sticky labels and putting the cups in order. Then we hid Numberblock 1 under a cup, we had to follow the cup as one of the children moved them around and then guess which cup it was under!
We were so good at finding the Numberblocks we made a game of finding pairs. We put new number labels on the bottoms of the cups and turned them upside down. Then we hid objects under each cup and had to try and find a matching pair.
