Years 5 & 6
Welcome to Years 5 & 6 (UKS2)
We have three mixed Year 5 & 6 classes: Gotham City, Hogwarts and The Shire.
Our class teachers are:
Mr Codd (Gotham City) - Phase Lead
Mrs Oliver (Hogwarts)
Mrs Dixon (The Shire).
The teaching assistants in our keystage are Miss Duff, Mrs Johnstone and Mrs Fleming.
Mrs Boothman, Mrs Warnes and Mrs Johnstone cover PPA sessions.
Our PE days:
Thursdays and Fridays for Hogwarts and The Shire.
Mondays and Fridays for Gotham City.
Children should have their kit in school every day.
Year 6 Homework
Reading
Children should read at home for at least 10 minutes, 5 days a week. This will help with their fluency and understanding. Please record this in their home reading records with a signature. Children who are not reading at home will complete this during breaktimes. Reading records will be checked in school.
Written homework
Homework will be set on a Friday and should be completed and returned by the following Thursday.
Each week, children will be given 10 spellings to learn. These will be recorded in their homework book, along with a range of spelling activities that can be found in the front of the book. Children are expected to complete three of these activities using all of the words from their spelling list.
Children are also expected to complete their allocated maths questions on Trivela FC each week.
In line with our Homework Policy, children who do not complete their homework may be required to finish it during break times. Parents will be notified by text if homework has not been completed.
The homework set should take no more than one hour per week and can be completed in shorter sessions across the week. If your child is finding the work difficult, please do not hesitate to get in touch for support.
In addition to the weekly homework, children will receive a project-based homework task during the Autumn Term.
Class Information
Doors open at 8.35am, ready to start working at their desk by 8.45am and we finish at 3.15pm. It is vital that all children arrive at school on time. 10 minutes late per day is 50 minutes of lost learning time each week.
We enter via the classroom door and leave via the classroom door. If you have given permission for your child to leave the school premises without an adult, please ensure they are aware of any prior arrangements you have made with them.
Please be prompt if collecting your child. We will also try our best to be prompt but please remember that the children will not leave the classroom door until 3:15pm.
All children will need a water bottle (containing only water) and a book bag (containing their reading book and reading record) in school every day.
Children must wear the correct school uniform every day. Please refer to the school’s uniform policy for more details.
PE kits need to be in school every day. PE kit should consist of a red top, dark shorts and trainers. As the weather gets colder, they may wear a warm top and bottoms. Earrings must not be worn for PE.
It is very important that your child’s belongings are clearly named so they can easily be returned if lost.
Any questions or concerns please contact our school office and we will get back to you.
Thank you!
