Nursery - Allstars

Hello and welcome to the Upperby Allstars Nursery!!

Our Nursery Teacher is called Mr Stokes and our Nursery Teaching Assistants are Miss McHard and Mrs Reid.

Our little Allstars are always busy finding interesting things to do, inside and outside...where would you like to play with your friends?

As part of our Platinum Jubilee celebrations, we've been looking at the 1950s- which has inspired us to create art, play some new games, and listen to music from 70 years ago- we're loving the Rock 'n' Roll, and use it when we do dough disco and carpet dancing.

Jackson Pollock

Jackson Pollock was an artist in the 1950s, and is particularly remembered for his 'action' paintings. He used a paintbrush to make his art, but not in the usual way- he used his brushes to throw paint at his super large canvases! We've had a go at some different ways of getting paint onto our paper- creating our art over the course of the week.

There are lots of flags about at the moment, and our nursery is no different. We've been learning about the Union Flag, and using it as inspiration for creating patterns, making bunting and even making our own flags.

Green fingers

As part of our Spring theme, we've been trying our hand at gardening. We've all planted seeds, which we've taken home, and can't wait for our parents and carers to share photos on Tapestry- we'll post any pictures on here as we get them.

Spring time!

Spring is very nearly here, and we've been looking at growth and the new life we associate with the warmer weather. The children were very excited to have some chicks visit the classroom for a couple of days, and they provided a great talking point for all of our little stars.

Big PE

We're always climbing and jumping in Nursery, it helps develop our muscles, which will help us be super learners as we get older. We've really enjoyed being able to practise our jumping and climbing in The Hall with the big PE equipment, and we've even been learning to put our shoes, socks and tights on when we get back to class!

We've had great fun making decorations and decorating our classroom for Christmas, we hope Santa likes it!

There have been some spooky goings on in nursery today, we came in and the classroom had been decorated with lots of Halloween things. There were spiders in our finger gym, Halloween crafts on the cut and stick table, pulses and pumpkins in the sand tray, potions in the mud kitchen and some spooky outfits in the role play cupboard. We also had a look inside a pumpkin, and scooped out its insides, and discovered a monster shape sorting game. There was even a witch in our curiosity cube!

The Halloween fun will continue this week, with petrifying playdough, scary shape sorting, and loads of fantastic Halloween stories.
