Welcome to the Summer term and homework update

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Welcome to the start of the Summer term at Upperby Primary School.

I  hope you are all well, all our staff are missing all the children in class and we hope to speak to you soon.  We will be telephoning home over the next few weeks to see how you are getting on and to support you and your child(ren) to get the best from home learning.

We would like to ensure all our children continue to make progress and keep up to date with their learning.  We are also aware of the challenges for home learning.  We are here to help and you can contact the staff on homework@upperbycdc.org.uk

We are sending this letter to inform you that your child’s class is now using Studyladder, an online educational program which allows students to learn on-line.  We will be using Studyladder as our main learning platform during the period of school closure and this will enable the teachers to review the children’s work and be able to monitor progress.  It is very important that the children complete the work set of Studyladder we will be supporting this during of welfare telephone calls.

About Studyladder

Studyladder is a web based educational program designed by teachers. The program is curriculum based and covers Mathematics, Literacy as well as other subjects. Your child has been given a username and password which can be used to access Studyladder. They can log onto Studyladder between 8.30am and 4.30pm each weekday from 20th April 2020.

Using Studyladder

Safe Internet Usage.  Your child will NOT be able to chat with anyone using Studyladder. However, we still encourage you to supervise your child at all times when using the internet.

Using Studyladder from home

Simply go to www.studyladder.co.uk and login using your child’s school username and password.  These are included with this letter.   If you have any questions please contact your child's teacher on homework@upperbycdc.org.uk

We will set new work each week and teachers will check your child’s progress.  The children will be given five activities a day.  Most activities are short and fun.

We are all aware that all the children are missing school and we have provided some more fun activities for the child to complete if they would like to do some other challenges while school is closed.

Please log on to school website and look under the children’s tab for HOME LEARNING, then look under your child’s year group.  You will find lots of additional ideas to support you and hopefully some messages from the staff.   These activities will supplement the work set on study ladders and do not forget the children have access to Timetables Rockstars and Spelling Shed – try to do these every day for at least 10 minutes.  Children can access for free reading books on readon.myon.co.uk.  Enjoy lots of reading while you have the time.

We thank you for all your support in ensuring your child continues to make progress while school is closed.   Please send us pictures of what your child has been doing, I am very aware of the most amazing things parents have undertaken with their children over the last few weeks, please send your pictures of messages to homework@upperbycdc.org.uk

We are still available to help, if you have any concerns contact school on 01228 815460, please be aware that it might not be our school admin that answer the call, leave a message for Mrs Hodgkins and I will get back to you as soon as possible.  You can always contact school via e-mail at homework@upperbycdc.org.uk Please let us know if you do not have access to on-line resources so that we can support you in a different way.

Please take care and stay safe, we are all looking forward to having our Upperby family back in at school as soon as possible.

Yours sincerely

Mrs Hodgkins
