Dear Parents and Carers
I hope everyone is well and continuing with their home learning. We are missing everyone, please keep sending pictures of the activities you have been completing. It is hard to believe that we are now in June and this is the last half term before the summer holidays. I hope this letter will provide an update for parents and carers, please do not hesitate to contact school if you have any questions.
SCHOOL REPORTS FOR YEAR 1, YEAR 3, YEAR 4 and YEAR 5
We will be posting out school reports for these year groups. I am sorry that the children were not able to add their comments, however you may want to do this as an activity with your child. School reports for other year groups will be sent out at the beginning of July. Parents will be able to discuss the reports with teachers when they make the welfare telephone calls. We will also provide a telephone parent meeting at the beginning of July for parents wishing to discuss their child’s progress since September.
FREE SCHOOL MEALS.
Parents who received vouchers because they are eligible for free school meals need to be aware of the changes in the system. From 15th June our school kitchens will be open more widely and therefore we are providing each child with a packed lunch which will need to be collected from school. There will be NO free school meal vouchers after the next voucher you receive, which will cover the week beginning 8th June. If you do not want to collect your free school meal please could you contact the school office before the 15th June. There is no alternative provision for free school meals. Please collect your packed lunches after 11.15am from the infant playground, please ensure you socially distance when you are collecting.
SCHOOL PROVISION FOR KEY WORKER CHILDREN
We will continue our provision for children of key worker children. If you are a key worker and need a school place because you have no alternative childcare, please contact the school office who will explain how to apply for a place. The provision is 9.00am – 3.15 each day. The children need to wear school uniform. Children are not allowed to bring any items from home into school. Please do not send your child if they or any member of your household as any symptoms of COVID-19. Please e-mail email@example.com if you have any questions about this provision.
WIDER OPENING OF SCHOOL
As you are aware the government asked that school open to wider year groups FROM the 1st June. We have been making arrangements in school to ensure we are able to welcome some of our other children back into school in a safe way. I have created a frequently asked questions sheet to provide information about how the school will look and routines for the children. I will be adding this to the school website at the start of next week. The key thing about opening to the wider school is trying to ensure everyone is safe and we can ensure social distancing and good hygiene routines.
We are starting to introduce YEAR 6 ONLY from the 15th JUNE and then look at starting a group of Year 1 children from 22nd JUNE and after this we will look at reception if we have space in school. NO other year groups are able to come into school at this moment in time so that we can ensure our school is running safely for the staff and children. I am sure some parents will find this frustrating but we need to ensure that each group coming in, is safe and does not mix with other groups in school.
We are very sorry that our residential for Year 3 has been cancelled. We will be contacting parents in the near future to discuss payments made for this trip.
The Year 5 trip to Brathay will now take place in October and be the Year 6 residential trip. Please could you continue to pay your instalments for this as often as possible. We will be reminding parents to pay small instalments as often as possible.
Please remember we have book swap every Thursday 1pm – 3pm. It is our favourite time of the week when we can see our Upperby Family and catch up with lots of families. Please bring back the books that the children came home with in March and change it for a different book.
I know September seems a long way away, however if you would like to order any school uniform items, please use the SCOPAY system. We will text you to arrange a specific collection time.
We send virtual hugs to all our families. We hope you continue to stay safe and we look forward to the day we meet again all together in school.
Mrs J Hodgkins
