Parent Letter - 11th January 2021

11th January 2021

Dear Parents and Carers

Firstly a huge thank you for the incredible job you have done with on-line learning since last Monday.  Please accept my apologies if you had technical issues, we have put some help sheets on the website under children’s tab, remote/blended learning.  I am sure we will all be feeling more confident at the end of week.

Many parents have been shocked by the expectations of on-line learning.  This is expectations we are expected to follow from the Government and more information about this will be added to the website on remote/blended learning page.  Please do not feel overwhelmed, we are here to help, please contact us.

If you have issues with on-line learning we ask that you make contact with school via the homework e-mail address or direct to teachers if you are using google classroom and sending messages on Tapestry. We have had some issues this week where messages have been ‘lost’ in the system as people are telephoning into school or using different e-mail addresses.

We ask parents to support us by ensuring that children follow the expectations for ‘google meet’ sessions, these were sent out to all parents last week.  Children using google classrooms need to upload their work so we can mark it and support future learning.   For parents using Tapestry with younger children, don’t forget to like when you have read a post so we know you have read it and send us pictures.  We have been delighted with the work and pictures we have received to date.

For all issues relating to on-line learning email

I am aware that some families are struggling with the technology needed for on-line learning.  Currently we have not received any of the promised laptops from the government. We will continue to do our best with the resources we have.

COVID19 information

We continue to need to know if we have children who have tested positive or children who are self-isolating, even if they are learning on-line.  For this and any general concerns please contact the school on    Please do not use any other e-mail account to contact school and then we can ensure that the senior leadership team are seeing all communications from parents.

During the first lockdown our favourite day of the week was the book exchange.  I know all families that used this felt supported and we loved seeing everyone.  We will be starting book exchange sessions again during lockdown 3, they will be slightly different, they will be the one stop shop for you each week.  We will provide an exchange of book for your child(ren) closely linked to their reading level, printed worksheets to supplement learning on-line, replacement home learning books when the current ones are full, limited resources and support for families struggling with the technical issues. We need to ensure social distancing so it will be organised in year groups, however if you have children in different year groups come  to just one of the days and we will cater for all the children at one time..  If you can let us know in advance it will help us sort out the books/resources in advance.  Contact via

Please come at the specific times for each class within the year groups.  All adults must wear a mask and maintain social distancing.   Please enter via NURSERY ROAD GATE and come to the hall door only – please respect the safety of staff and stay in the parents area.  Thank you

If you are eligible for income assessed Free School Meals we will continue to support you during this lockdown.  Last week we arranged food vouchers as the Government had not provided any guidance, which they now have.  This week we will also provide vouchers, however this may not continue during the lockdown as the guidance is for food parcels and we will be looking to see how we can most effectively organise this.  We are not looking at providing a packed lunch each day, it will be a weekly box which meets the government guidelines.   If you circumstances change please apply for free school meals via Cumbria county council website.

While the school has moved to on-line learning, I want to reassure everyone we still have your child’s best interest at the heart of everything we do.  We are here to support you, it will just be in different ways. To support our school community please follow all the guidelines we have been asked in this current lockdown.  If we all support each other in our school community, we will make it through and the time will come again when we can return to school in safety.

Please take care and stay safe.

Yours sincerely
