Dear Parent and Carers
I hope this letter finds everyone well. It has been a long time since March and we are looking forward to seeing all the children again. As you will be aware the government has said that all children in all year groups will be returning in September, we are awaiting more guidance. Our priority will be to continue to keep our children and staff as safe as possible. Please ensure you check the latest news page on the school website for updates.
KEY WORKER PLACES (for the next three weeks)
Parents do not have an automatic right to a place in school if they are a key worker, we have to work to strict guidelines and organisation. Currently we are at full capacity. I am sorry if we are not able to offer a place and I am sure you will understand the guidelines we have to work with.
FREE SCHOOL MEAL VOUCHER FOR THE SUMMER HOLIDAYS
We will be organising the Free School Meal voucher for the summer holidays. Please could you inform school if you have changed your e-mail address since 1st June. The voucher will be e-mailed to eligible parents and will cover the whole of the school holidays. This is organised nationally, the voucher should arrive within the first two weeks of the school holidays.
If your circumstances have changed and you feel you may be eligible for free school meals, you can check your eligibility via https://www.cumbria.gov.uk/childrensservices/schoolandlearning/freeschoolmeals.asp
Please note that this does need to be confirmed before the end of this week in order to secure vouchers for over the summer.
Thank you for all your support in ensuring your child accesses our on-line learning on Studyladder. We have invited some children who are struggling with access to come into school to complete this work. If your child is invited, we would encourage you to take up this opportunity. We know lots of children are completing a wide range of activities from our home learning page on the school website. We enjoy seeing the pictures of all your activities.
To support children and parents further we will providing packs of paper activities from this week for children in Year 1 to Year 5. These can be collected at the book swap on a Thursday afternoon 1.00pm – 3.00pm We will be providing these for the next three weeks and we will also provide a pack to support during the summer holidays on the last week of term. These activities can be returned to school the following week or when we return in September.
NEW TERM IN SEPTEMBER
The new term starts on THURSDAY 3rd SEPTEMBER. Term dates will be added to the school website. I am aware that parents are concerned about their children returning to school, I will continue to keep parents updated as guidance is released. I have always ensured we keep the children at the heart of everything we do. At the start of the term in September the children will return to their current class with their current teacher for a few days, this will ensure we are able to support our children. The children will then have a transition to new classes as we usually do in July. Information about new classes will be shared in September.
Children in Year 1, 3, 4, and 5 had written reports a few weeks ago. We will be sending a text message to enable parents to book a 10 minute telephone meeting to discuss any concerns you have. Please follow directions on the text. ``
REPORTS FOR YEAR 6, 2 and Reception
The written reports for children in these year groups will be sent out before the end of term.
School uniform for September can be purchased via the Scopay System and you will be telephoned with a timed slot to collect your order. If you have lost your login details, please contact the school who will support you in this matter.
Come along on a Thursday afternoon 1pm – 3pm to change your reading books. We would encourage as many families as possible to come. Please return the books that we sent home in March. We sent home 1,000 books and we would like to fill some of the spaces we now have in our library. Parents can also pick up packs of paper school work to support learning for children in Year 1 – Year 5.
Please remember the school is open and we are here to support all our families, even if your child/ren is/are not currently attending school. I can only help if you let me know that you need support. We have tried to stay in touch with all the children. We have a few families who do not respond to any of our contacts, please ensure you stay in touch with your class teacher. Please do not hesitate to telephone if you have any concerns or feel we can support more during this challenging time. The school website is how we send out any new information, please ensure your keep having a look, it also has lots of pictures of children’s home learning.
We look forward to September when we will once again be a whole Upperby family.
