Dear Parents / Carers
It is with great sadness that I have to inform you of the sudden death of our Year 5 teaching assistant Mrs Graham over the weekend. Mrs Graham was a much-loved member of our staff and will leave an enormous gap at school. We are devastated to lose a special member of our Upperby family.
Mrs Graham has been at Upperby for many years working with hundreds of children. She was extremely artistic and had a real flare for anything creative, producing many beautiful displays around school. She leaves behind her husband and two children, who I am sure you will think of in the days and months to come.
We will discuss this sad news with pupils in Years 5 and 6 tomorrow (the children who know Mrs Graham well). We are aware that everyone deals with news such as this in different ways. Your child may or may not want to talk about it but it is likely that they will need extra love and support from you in the days ahead at home. If upset, we would recommend that you take time to listen to them and try to provide a predictable routine for your child at home. We will provide extra support for any pupils in school who are struggling.
We have one week left in school before we finish for Christmas and I can’t deny that they will be difficult for us as staff; however, we will continue to ensure that children have positive and memorable experiences. Staff have therefore decided there should be as little change as possible to planned events.
Thank you as ever for your ongoing support. It is always appreciated but at this sad time, even more so.
