Welcome to Camelot Class
Our teacher is Mrs Rothery. Our teaching assistant is Miss Ferguson. We are Year 2.
PE
We have PE on a Wednesday with Miss Wilson.
Children will need to have their PE kits in school each day in case of any timetable changes.
Thank You
Thank you to all our adults who were able to attend this half term's Stay and Play. We hope you enjoyed it as much as the children did. We had a very special visitor in school during our Stay and Play session! Santa came and we were able to go and see him with our grown ups, making it even more special.
Following on from last week we have looked at HOW we celebrate special occasions and HOW Jewish people celebrate Hanukkah. We made Hanukkah cards and Dreidels. We also ate donuts as food fried in oil is eaten at the Hanukkah celebrations. This is to remember the miracle of the oil that burned for eight days.
Sponsored Silence
Congratulations Camelot!
We did it! We all stayed silent for 30 minutes for our sponsored silence challenge today!
On Tuesday this week, M and M Theatre Company came to school to stage a production of Cinderella. The children were engrossed from the beginning to the end and enjoyed joining in with the songs and the traditional pantomime responses.
Children in Need Day
Today we learnt a lot about how Children in Need began and how it helps children in the UK. We raised money in school by coming to school dressed in red, yellow, or spots.
We talked about if Pudsey came to Cumbria, he would need a waterproof bandanna! We developed our understanding of fair testing by investigating different materials to see which ones are waterproof.
Cumbria Fire Service
On Thursday this week the fire service came to school and held an assembly for Key Stage 1.
The children heard all about the work the fire service do. We then went outside and had a close up look at the fire engine. We saw all the different sections and the equipment they carry and learnt what each item was used for.
In ICT this week with Mrs Cannon, we learnt about the importance of keeping safe on the internet. We watched videos and talked about what to do if we were concerned about anything we see or hear on the internet.

We learnt about why people wear poppies. We wrote about this in our topic books, we made posters and we all made our own poppy. These were added to others made in school to create a lovely whole school display.
Our class story has been George's Marvellous Medicine by Roald Dahl.
The children loved the story and never wanted the story session to end!
They looked forward to each new installment with great excitement!
Art Week
In art week we learnt about Great women through history.
Camelot class looked at the life and achievements of Ada Lovelace.
We worked with Emerald City and Year 6 to produce a display for the hall.
Our topic this term is, 'Discover Cumbria'
We are beginning with looking at some of the features of Carlisle.
Our first question that we are looking into is... 'Why was Dixon's Chimney built'
The children were very well behaved and made us very proud. The smiles on their faces were a pleasure to see. They were excited to explore the ruins of both these castles and find the various features we have been learning about. The play area at Penrith Castle was also a huge hit with the children.
In Literacy we are looking at books by the same author.
The first book we are reading is...
'The Egg' by M P Robertson
We are now reading the next book in this series by M.P Robertson.
The Dragon Snatcher
Numeracy
In maths we are learning how to read and write numbers
in numerals and words.
We are also learning about 'Place Value' and how to represent numbers in different ways.
We had fun using the Numicon to play games and develop our understanding of numbers.
